Comparison Review: Primera Facial Mild Peeling vs. Facial Intensive Peeling

This is a long overdue review. I actually talked about the both of them in my previous Primera products overview. The only reason why I want to bring them up today is simply because I almost finish using all of them and want to make sure that I record how I feel about them before tossing them out. You know blogging is actually a kind of diary to record how you feel about something on a particular occasion. And I want to make my beauty blog is a kind of beauty diary which I can always refer back to in the future.

So, let's talk about Primera Peeling Gel.

I got to know Primera Peeling Gel through Liah Yoo if I remember correctly. I don't know how I found out about Primera and their best-selling Peeling Gel but it just happens. I remember there was once I instantly searching through Chinese shopping mall Taobao eager to find more information on Primera because getting them 2 years ago would be insanely expensive in Malaysia. Only ebay is carrying them. Althea has yet to be launched and Shopee doesn't have as much Primera selection as it does now. Gmarket has pretty good deals but its shipping is hella expensive and you can easily get into trouble with Custom on that.

You know how guys tend to feel about gals who play hard to get. These Primera stuffs play really hard back then, so they actually take a special place in my heart. I usually think highly of them. And they always remind me how obsessed I was with skincare back then.

There are two types of Primera peeling gels, namely the Intensive Peeling Gel and Mild Peeling Gel. Mild one is more popular in Korea because it is suitable for all skin types and is really effective at getting rid of dead skin cells on your face. It even appears on Korean beauty show Get it Beauty so you can imagine the craze. I bought the Intensive having tried out several Primera Mild Peeling Gel miniatures (and was not impressed). I think the Intensive one will work better for my drier skin.

In this review, I'm gonna talk about both products in more details, and hopefully that it can help some of you make better choices if you are indecisive between them.

Primera Mild Facial Peeling Gel

Primera Mild Peeling Gel is said to be one of the best exfoliators ever. It is really gentle on the skin, uses natural ingredients and are really effective at getting rid of dead skin cells on your skin. Well, are these claims true? Yes! If you have sensitive skin!

If you follow my blog, you'll know that I talked about physical exfoliant, especially gommage peel previously. These are basically a gentler form of scrub which uses enzymes and botanical extracts to slough off dead skin cells via manual massaging. It is much gentler than scrub and does not have the side effects of chemical exfoliant AHA. And this Primera Mild Peeling Gel is the gentlest among all gommage peel I have tried. It feels like grained botanical extracts dissolved in gel, so people who love "natural skincare" will love this.

INGREDIENTS

Water, Glycerin, Steartrimonium Methosulfate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Brassica Oleracea Gemmifera (Brussels Sprouts) Extract, Borago Officinalis Extract, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Leaf Extract, Melia Azadirachta Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Extract, Phyllanthus Emblica Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Isopropyl Alcohol, Fragrance

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

I am a bit surprised to find that alcohol is not listed among the ingredients list. This peeling gel actually smells strongly of alcohol but there isn't any alcohol here! I only spot antistatic steartrimonium methosulfate, and several botanical extracts as well as some gentle moisturizers and a tiny bit of alcohol derivative.

The goodies are broccoli extract, neem extract, cabbage extract, strawberry leaf extract, sunflower extract, borage extract, indian gooseberry extract and so on. These are commonly used ingredients with astringent, antioxidizing and skin purifying benefits. A lot of these are ingredients I talked about in my Primera Alpine Berry Watery Cream comparison review. Strawberry leaf extract, for instance, is an effective anti-aging ingredient that can improve the complexion of the skin while at the same time moisturize it. The same goes for indian gooseberry and borage extracts.

Simple, sweet, and effective, I think. And perfect for acne-prone, sensitive, and oily skin. It will also work great for individuals with pores concern.

Primera Intensive Facial Peeling Gel

This product is a harsher version of the Mild Facial Peeling Gel, but is still relatively gentler than many facial scrubs. Normally, I would recommend this product to those who have normal to dry skin, but I think you can also get similar results from the cheaper Skinfood Black Sugar Mask or Rice Wash-Off Mask so this is not a must-have especially if you don't want to spend so much money on a scrub.

The packaging looks really nice, simple and elegant. Typical Primera design. Main ingredients are broccoli extract and bead tree which are said to have purifying effects on the skin.

The Intensive Facial Peeling Gel is a gommage gel with abrasive consistency. It is slightly harsher than Mild Facial  Peeling Gel but will not feel abrasive at all on your skin. The consistency is quite similar to Skinfood Rice Wash-Off  Mask but is much more refined.

INGREDIENTS

Water, Glycerin, Steartrimonium Methosulfate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Melia Azadirachta Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Brassica Oleracea Gemmifera (Brussels Sprouts) Extract, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin Orange) Peel Oil, Lavendula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Fragaria Vesca (Strawberry) Leaf Extract, Borago Officinalis Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Extract, Phyllanthus Emblica Extract, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Isopropyl Alcohol

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

Main ingredients are green tea extract, Brussel sprouts, neem extract, cabbage leaf extract, strawberry leaf extract, borage oil, sunflower seed oil, indian gooseberry and so on. These are mainly astringents, moisturizers and skin purifying ingredients. Neem can keep the skin healthy and supple whereas cabbage is rich in moisture content and vitamins to keep it plump and supple. There isn’t any harsh chemicals or peels here, only some relatively safe anti-static steartrimonium methosulfate, cocamidopropyl betaine, distearlydimonium chloride and so on.

CONCLUSION

I guess, apart from the quality of ingredients used, these peeling gels are too expensive for me to worth repurchasing. I can get similar results from my Skinfood Wash-Off Mask and many other exfoliating products, not necessarily must be these Primera ones. But if you can get both products at reasonable prices (in Malaysia, Primera peeling gel is about 5X more expensive than Skinfood scrub), then definitely Primera are better made products. They are super gentle, use natural ingredients and are really effective. Also, if you have sensitive, troubled and dull skin, then Primera Mild Facial Peeling  Gel would be a great option for you. Also, if you like anything broccoli, then these Primera peeling gels would be excellent as well. In addition, you will need a lot of products for each use if you use the Mild Facial Peeling Gel so it is not very cost-effective unless if you can get them at really reasonable prices.

In short, Primera gommage peels are really wonderful products using natural ingredients and are really gentle on the skin. However, they are too expensive to maintain. As a person who wouldn't spend so much on a scrub, I don't think I will repurchase unless if I get really good deals in the future.
