Review: Neogen Dermalogy Day-Light Protection Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++

Neogen Dermalogy earns its reputation as a cosmetic brand using innovative dermaceutical research in its formulation. It is like the Korean version of Neogence, Dr. Wu, and AM+PM. I got to know it through Soko Glam – a well-known beauty curator. Many vlogger including Joan and Morgan are also raving about their products, so I thought maybe I should give it a try. I bought several things from the line, including its sunscreen, cleansing water, foam cleanser and peeling pad. In today’s review, we are gonna talk about its popular lightweight sunscreen with a broad spectrum protection.

Neogen Dermalogy Day-Light Protection Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++ is a lightweight, slightly powdery lotion that is made of quality sun filters such as octinoxate, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. It smells fruity and slightly spicy, not my favourite but not too unpleasant either.

You can refer to this post for sunscreen-related knowledge.

The best thing about this sunscreen is its lightweight consistency. It gets absorbed into the skin easily without leaving a trace. For those of you who are concerned about white cast, this will leave a slight white cast after applying that will dissipate quickly once it is fully absorbed. Since it contains zinc oxide, it will leave a rather drying and papery finish. It is more suitable for sensitive and oily skin but I think normal skin will also fare well with this.

INGREDIENTS ANALYSIS

This sunscreen uses 5 UV filters, namely 7.5% octinoxate, tinosorb S, 2.8% zinc oxide, amiloxate, and 0.9% titanium dioxide. All of these offers decent UVB protection whereas zinc oxide and tinosorb S offer long ray UVA1 protection. Octinoxate is much more controversial than the others as it may disrupt hormonal production but it is so commonly found in sunscreens that you almost cannot avoid having it. Many people love zinc oxide as it is a non-irritating and very photo-stable sunscreen ingredient, and can protect against long UVA rays (UVA1). This is a physical and chemical sunscreen.

Most of the ingredients here are solvents, emulsifiers, viscosity controls, surfactants and so on texture ingredients. There are also some skin-benefiting extracts since you are gonna apply this on your face for several hours. We have eucalyptus oil, lemon oil, lavender oil, cedar wood oil, rose extract, lemon verbena extract, blueberry extract, acai berry extract, hibiscus flower extract, dang gui extract, indian gooseberry extract, honey extract, arnica flower extract, raspberry fruit extract, and green purslane. These are mainly essential oils, vitamin C and antioxidants berries, as well as some anti-inflammatory botanical extracts.

CONCLUSION

To sum up, I love this sunscreen. It is lightweight, it contains zinc oxide, it doesn't leave a white cast and it offers broad spectrum protection. The consistency is similar to Kiehl's UV Light Sunscreen that I love. So lightweight, powdery yet non-drying. I think this has quickly earned all my respect and jumped on top of my holy grail sunscreen list now!
